Has anyone read a book about a city that is held up in the air by steel pulleys and chains, which are slipping?
I read it about a year ago; got it in a science-fiction bookstore, and wish I had not tossed it. It was a thin book in which a young man has all sorts of adventures in this weird world ( of course) and I think there are flying metal ships.Houses and people were slipping off into the void. Someone ( a blacksmith-metal worker?) had prepared lethal poison, and also towards the end the man and girl escape down to a secret chamber. Hope this is enough info. to jog someones memory. I kept thinking that its MYST, but not sure that is right. It is probably also a video game. Would love to get hold of it again because it really held my attention and would make a great movie!
It is an awesome read—just IMAGINE a city being held in the air by chains that must be constantly and noisily maintained by metal smiths. I think the air ships or whatever are in the air to maintain all the steel. And I got the impression that the city’s homes were kind of English cottage style. Don’t ask me what the people ate. Please check with some of your “literati” friends on line and I will check SF websites.

Whoops published x 2. QA is kind of messed up recently. Since the houses in the story are wooden I think they are always burning up as well as falling off the edge of space. Along with the men, women, and kids of course,
Hi, does anyone know US’s export restriction on scrap metal, such as iron, steel and copper to HongKong?
Any reference would be appreciated.
